Saudade by Chris LaRocca
Chris LaRocca goes in deep when it comes to relationships and life on the new seven track R&B album, ‘Saudade‘, which was released last month. From falsettos to smooth grooves, the songs hold their own as the introspective lyrics deal with relationship endings, the way people act during those endings and the overall toxicity one finds themself in when it comes to the grand quest that is love. The theme of ‘Yardsale‘ is about the hard times of a relationship as the turmoil grows. ‘Heated Up‘ swirls around unrequited love while in a relationship. It can be hard trying to hold on when one person isn’t emotionally invested in the relationship anymore.
I mean, just the intricacy of how these songs are written showcase just how talented LaRocca is. Soundscape wise, the songs on ‘Saudade‘ sound like modern R&B bops that you expect to be at the top of the charts. However, the way LaRocca crafts the storylines is what really makes the music shine. After all, that is what most listeners are connecting with. The album closes with the song ‘Test On Me‘ which embodies the notion that, when you hit on hard times your strength is being tested in order to open new paths of opportunity in life.
We all hit this period at one time or another. It’s a struggle for sure but the song is great reminder to persevere.
