Westward by Taylor Bryn Jackson
Back in March, Country and Bluegrass singer songwriter, Taylor Bryn Jackson released her debut twelve track album, Westward. The album has that down home, earthy, on the farm, in the south, retro country sound and it feels really hearty. Westward stays true to the roots of classic country music in terms of its sound and themes. The main themes range from heartache, hard work and leaving for a better life among others interspersed throughout the album. Jackson’s sweet and warm voice brings the charm and adds the magic which makes each song stand out and grabs the attention of the listener.
The song ‘Cowboys & Proud‘ is everything you expect from a classic country song. It’s upbeat, and full of the pride of life of hard working people. I mean it just touches on every aspect from Chevy’s and guns to church and polite manners. Then there is the sass of this lyric that got me laughing, “Millennials call it ‘vintage’ but we know it’s just a damned antique“. I love it. My parents are from the south so I get it this mentality.
