the song is about systemic oppression and the current erosion of the United States to authoritarianism, caught between dark and light in an ongoing struggle for liberty. thus, an eternal state of twilight. it was inspired emotionally by the outcry of the BLM movement and the revealing of deep corrupting via the suffering of COVID19.
