Smile, It Might Never Happen by Dohny Jep
Dohny Jep just released their new EP, ‘Smile, It Might Never Happen‘ which contains a well balanced mix of themes throughout the four songs. The first song, ‘Control‘, is about taking control of your life and being your truest self. The atmosphere is driven by heavy guitars, hard hitting percussions, and vocal harmonies. It’s certainly a great start to the EP! Second we have, ‘Smile‘, which is about mental health. The song is a bit slower and has a slightly darker atmosphere which is befitting the tone of the lyrics.
‘Looking in‘, which we previously reviewed, is a song about feeling like an outcast yet wanting to be accepted. The layered heavy rock driven guitars are mixed with electronic elements for a modern heavy rock atmosphere. Last song on the EP is ‘Get Fucked‘. This is a great closer. It really carriers all the previous feelings from the prior themes and, as a result, it creates a well rounded album. It’s like the whole EP tells a story from start to finish. Here’s what the band had to say about the single, ‘Looking in‘
“Looking in is about feeling left out and neglected, wanting to be included but also struggling to make these feelings known, causing you to never really get anywhere”
