Your Tongue by Brian Grogan
Brian Grogan is back with another dissection of intimate relationships in the newest single, ‘Your Tongue‘. Thus far, Grogan has done an exquisite job of taking one aspect of a relationship and detailing all the micro nooks and crannies that exist within that aspect. In previous songs Grogan has covered a lot of “first time” topics and ‘Your Tongue‘ is no exception. Here’s what Grogan had to say about ‘Your Tongue‘:
The song is about the act of kissing (or as it was known in my Irish youth, ‘shifting’) another human being for the first time or on a more regular basis. It was written at the end of a very long ‘kissing’ dry spell and came quite quickly. Originally written and performed as a guitar led piece, it took a number of turns in the studio before coming to the final organ led version with production from Adam Coltman and Ali Neil (Lewisburg).
From a songwriting point of view, Grogan has a knack for recreating these emotions in song form. The start grow from this inner quietness, as if you are alone with you thoughts, to that pounding drum, which acts like your heartbeat as you get closer to that final moment. By far, this brilliant songwriter is one of the best to come out in recent years! One day we’re sure to be looking back on this breadth of work and commenting about how ahead of his time he was.
