Mixing their own brew of Stoner Rock Psychedelic music, Chron Goblin recently released their album ‘Here Before‘ which contains eleven tracks that flow effortlessly from one to the next, all while providing a solid sonic experience that never gets boring. The band has pulled out all the stops! While a lot of bands focus on making “singles” Chron Goblin has put in the effort and attention to detail into making an album that doesn’t feel like the same song with different lyrics.
While singles are great, they can act as a bands signature which leaves little variety for the listener when all songs on an album are worked on in that manner. ‘Here Before‘, on the other hand, is an album you can listen to on repeat. Don’t get me wrong, each of the songs are excellent and would make great singles. However, it’s clear the band set out to make an album and an excellent one at that! Here’s what the band had to say about the first single ‘Slipping Under‘:
Slipping Under is one of the more complex arrangements on the album. It starts off with a dark n’ dreamy clean intro, experimenting with some electronic drums, before it kicks into the heavy bridge and on to the tight n’ groovy verses. The pre-solo section also includes more experimentation with the inclusion of some dirty 808 drops, something we haven’t tried before! This song is a blast to play live with its multitude of changes and dynamics. Mike Fraser mixed this song, along with Ghost, and his take on both tracks added a nice depth and diversity to the album as a whole.
