Ancestor by The Darkling Air

I recently came across the new ten track album, ‘Ancestor‘, by The Darkling Air which has beautiful and lush vocals amidst a soundscape of instrumentals working together to bring each song to life. Each song has vivid storytelling fueled by the soft and the emotive vocals of vocalist Rachel McCarthy. I find the overall tone of the album to be fluid, flowing from dark to light, pain to love, effortlessly. All of which you are treated to from the start.

Silver Lightning (prelude)‘ starts the album off and is the perfect introduction, as it encompasses this flow. Vocals soar over the background droning giving a mixture of beauty and intensity. I can imagine it fitting in nicely into a horror movie. However, once the strings and piano kick in, it transforms that darkness into an elegant and romantic world of light. This effortless introduction (which was composed Michael Keeney) perfectly summed up what I was about to experience and from the start I was impressed.

I have to say, from start to finish the album was certainly well thought out. As a result, you get this deep sense of connection. You can watch the music video for ‘Octogenarian Mermaid‘ down below. Above all else don’t forget to go listen to the rest of the album which is available everywhere! As always, if you like what you hear then let’s keep good music coming by supporting these artists. Remember to follow the artist and spread the word! Artists Links below.
