Welcome to Paradise by Rvrside
Rvrside recently released a cover of pop punk legends, Green Day‘s hit song, ‘Welcome to Paradise‘. The song originally is off Green Day‘s ‘Kerplunk!‘ Album and would later go on to propel the band into the pop punk stratosphere when the album ‘Dookie‘ was released. Rvrside’s recent cover of ‘Welcome to Paradise‘ gives the song a modern alt pop makeover. Their version of ‘Welcome to Paradise‘ feels like a futuristic greeting after taking a time machine a thousand years into the future only to find life on the planet still struggling from the same things your current time struggles with, just with a futuristic landscape.
Oddly enough if you grew up in the era of Green Day and you’re looking at 2020, that’s probably exactly how you feel, which makes Rvrside’s cover the perfect upgrade for the song. This cover of ‘Welcome to Paradise‘ feels like that disbelief of a world that should have evolved, devolving. With futuristic synths hovering over the guitar riffs and the almost too calm vocals, you really get that ‘Stepford Wives‘ feeling.
