LACES, Amanda Brown, FLAVIA & BELLSAINT recently released the single, ‘They Say‘, which deals with trauma and society’s uncomfortable relationship with it. ‘They Say‘ addresses the fact that society wants to hide away the ugly, forcing many to suffer in silence and isolation. That opening line is powerful and the rest of the lryics follow suit. The vulnerability of the vocals are on full display amongst the beautifully gentle and uplifting backdrop of the instrumental arrangement. Here’s what LACES (Jessica Vaughn) Had to say about ‘They Say‘:
‘they say’ is about the process of living through trauma in a country that often asks you to smile through it and forget it,” Vaughn says. “Being a survivor isn’t a choice, it’s the next step after you’ve been painted a victim. Trauma changes you, but together we won’t let it break us.
‘They Say‘ is a powerful, elegant and captivating song. It’s the story of many survivors fighting alone. It is a beacon of light and hope for those who have been pushed aside and made to suffer in silence. It is a reminder to us all to show not only with our words but our actions that we care and we will be there in whatever way is needed. You can listen to ‘They Say‘ down below.
