Can’t Go Home Right Now by Kayls

Kayls recently released the single, ‘Can’t Go Home Right Now‘, a song that was inspired by the recent protests surrounding Black Lives Matter. ‘Can’t Go Home Right Now‘ has a very dark atmosphere. The music arrangement gives the listener a sense of running from danger. Almost as if the baseline is what you’re running away from and the melody is your growing anxiety and fear as you’re trying to escape. The percussion comes in like a heartbeat. This arrangement perfectly sets the stage for the lyrics which were inspired by a real experience Kayls lived through. All of which comes together when the vocals kick in. The vocals give you an internal dialogue feel all while being emotive as the song progresses through this nightmare. Here’s what  had to say about ‘Can’t Go Home Right Now‘:

“I woke up one morning and the place was choked in smoke and I could hear protesting and police sirens. I wanted to write a song recreating this atmosphere,” Kayls explains. “The song is an unsettling dream you fall asleep in and have another even more unsettling dream. That’s the world I saw when I woke up to sirens and everyone protesting for basic human decency.”

Can’t Go Home Right Now‘ certainly gives off that unsettling vibe. It’s a dark banger that a lot of people will relate to in one way or another.
