Still Believe by Mangoseed
Still Believe is the newest single by the Global Fusion band Mangoseed and it’s a beautifully written song that takes a deep look at what community means in relation to the sociopolitical atmosphere and how love can overcome if we’re willing to put in the effort. Ideally, community is that which we can lean on and grow from and this can only truly happen when there is love for and from your community. The video for the song really takes the three and a half minute song and expands further on this topic. In the video there’s a well known community elder who seems to get news of her impending deportation.
Recently the world at large has put forth some very anti immigration policies. Those policies often tend to reflect fears in the sociopolitical atmospheres of the countries. Anywhere from Sweden’s kinder yet with restrictions approach, Europe’s tough approach and some of the strictest legislation on debate right here in the States. However, in the face of all that the words “I still believe in love” ring out loud. Despite the hate and fear that comes with these issues this woman is loved by her community and they throw a going away party for her and come to say goodbye on her last day. A true testament that by getting to know each other we can grow from and love that which is different from us. Sometimes it’s hard to see the good in people especially in the current environment yet, how can you see that good if you don’t try.
Here’s what vocalist had to say Nicholai La Barrie:
I am pondering the world we are in and looking at the chaos and uncertainty of it all. And in America, where once Martin Luther King dreamed, it feels like that dream is lost to tyrants, racists and sexists, emboldened and loud. But it’s only love that will set us free.
