Joe Jenneman is shining a light on the misunderstood in the new single, ‘20th Street‘, which not only tells the story of some of those deemed as outcasts but brings the humanity back to the people society tries to ignore and abandon. The instrumentation is kept fairly simple which I believe was an excellent choice. As a result of keeping the instrumentation simple and clean the focus of the listener is on the lyrical content. It’s the lyrical content that is important because its focus is on those that society deems a lost cause and we should never think that way. Having this message overshadowed by an intricate musical background would take away from the beauty of the song.
Trust and believe that ‘20th Street‘ is a song filled with heart and compassion and that’s what makes it beautiful. To choose to bring awareness to society when one could easily write a song about being in love or breaking up is impressive. It’s always a risk, however, Jenneman’s ability to tell a story through song negates all that risk. You have a well written song that’s easy to sing along with thereby having a greater impact on the listener. It’s always a pleasure to hear new music from this artist.
